Here is Wayne’s descriptive note:
This was taken in Myanmar (Burma ) In the past the people of this remote area tattooed their female children to protect them from being stolen by other tribes, and to be able to recognize them if this took place. There are only a handful of these women left. Nikon D700
I find this image powerfully moving. The depth of the woman’s expression, most of all, but also the story of tribes feeling the need to protect children in such a drastic way.
And so it is.
